Mahahual Real Estate
Mahahual beach front properties
Ignored by investors that mainly had their eye fixed on Cancun for many years, now the attention is drawn towards the South of the State of Quintana Roo. A place called Mahahual (which means, no water for the witch) is a traditional fishing village with few rustic sea food restaurants and some souvenir shops. The hurricane that hit mahahual in 2007, created the opportunity to rebuild and modernise this fishermen's village into a top notch destination for the future. They have just finished a glamorous malecon or sidewalk... that has the allure of te famous beach walk in Rio de Janeiro.
There is a landing strip for smaller airplanes. A new airport is planned about 15 km north of Mahahual. The Government has already done their home work in order to make Mahahual a new destination for International Tourism. You can drive from Mahahaul to Xcalak over the beach road or over a nice newly paved road. The access roads are excellent and link to the other villages in between, called Rio Indio, el Uvero Punta Pulticub and Rio Huach.
The Costa Maya highway stretches all the way north to Punta Herrero a fishing village on the shores of Espiritu Santo Bay in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere reserve. Mahahual's perfect palm lined beaches are a real attraction and the waters were made for sunning , bathing and snorkeling.
Then there is Chinchorro Reef at about 2 hours boat drive where you can dive for ship wrecks (Pirate boats). This world famous atoll is a must see for scuba divers.
Xcalak
The most south located village in this state and well known for scuba divers that are on their way to Chinchorro. With the Costa Maya project under the wings Xcalak has created low impact services for the same kind of tourism. Beach-front lodging runs from smaller hotels and cabañas and offer facilities for boating, bird watching diving and sport fishing. The beaches are different from the ones in Mahahual and there are several lagoons nearby. Xcalak has also a landing strip and can be reached via Mahahual or by water via the new ferry service operating fro Chetumal.
